Growing up, I used to watch movies a lot (chick flicks) and the ‘lil black book’ would be referred to a lot. I made it my mission in life (drama queen expression) to find out the mystery behind it.
Well, there’s nothing to it really. What the lil black book is is a little book that fits in virtually anything and has a list of numbers that are important to you. Traditionally, it was a book (notebook) of some sort that was kept by young women with a list of numbers of their ex flings, boyfriends and whatever else but of course the work comes into maintaining it and keeping it updated.
How does the lil black book come in handy today? It is weird how children in high school or at a tertiary institution take the little matter of networking very lightly. The sooner one starts to network, the better. When looking for a job, the information collected over the years comes in very handy. By the time you need to go job hunting, you have all the numbers you can call and see if they can offer you anything. Collect business cards, ask for direct lines, etc and add them to your book as you come across them.
